Halloween at Disney

I recently got back from a trip to Disneyland Paris with a group of friends, we went specifically for the Halloween season and we were not disappointed!

I took hundreds of photos but also vlogged the trip too, it’s only my second vlog so please be gentle! You can click the image below to view the video on YouTube.

Here are some of my favourite pictures from the trip:

I highly recommend going to Disneyland during a season, I’ve now been for Halloween, Christmas and the 25th anniversary – all of them were spectacular. The details in the park when it’s themed for a season are outstanding and they really do go all out! If you’re wanting to see Disney villains specifically I would recommend Halloween as many more are out and available for meet and greets.

And to top this amazing trip off – I am heading back for Christmas in 5 weeks, surprising my 8 year old niece with her first ever trip!

Not a stitch!

So this is going to be a completely unrelated post to stitching, but my friend Kelsey inspired me to write a bookish blog post. You can check out her blog here, her blog is fabulous and full of books and cats!

I thought I would do a August book haul as I bought A LOT – and I’ve already read through 4 of them…I am part of a group where we live and breath books, we also enable each other a tremendous amount so quite a lot of my money goes on buying books that the ladies tell me too.

I had a bit of a physical and digital book haul in August, however I am trying to buy more books digitally as I’m running low on space…

On Kindle I picked up;

  • Human Acts – I bought this because the blurb sounded very interesting and I fell in love with Han Kangs writing after recently reading The Vegetarian. This book is based on true events of the Gwangju Uprising in South Korea in 1980, it’s very moving and it took a few days for me to recover after reading it – it also made me go and do a tonne of research into the Uprising.
  • The White Book – This is also written by Han Kang and I bought this soon after finishing Human Acts. The blurb suggests its a book which is about the spirit of life, dealing with mourning and rebirth – I cannot wait to read it!
  • The Alchemist – This was recommended to me by several people so I went in blind and I’m going to also read it completely blind, I am not going to read much into it and I’ll let you know my thoughts when I’m done.
  • Grotesque – I really love dark and messed up books (if you check out my goodreads read list you’ll see…), this has been coming up on my recommendations list for about a year so I thought it was time to pick it up.
  • Out – This was the other book which was recommended me to me alongside Grotesque, it’s the same author Natsuo Kirino and this one intrigues me because the blurb suggests it’s about a group of women who band together to leave their mundane lifestyles, and in doing this they do some pretty bad stuff…
  • Friend Request – This was suggested to me by a few friends so I thought I’d pick it up, but after reading the reviews I’m not sure I’m as hyped for it as I was originally. Who knows though, I may follow up with a blog post about this one.
  • Hex – This is going to be my first Halloween read in October (I put out a tweet asking for your favourite horror books and picked this up straight away), so many of my friends have read this, and the book group I’m part of always talk about how good and scary this is.

Physically I picked up;

  • Strange Weather in Tokyo – I’ve wanted to read this for a long time and recently I’ve found a new love of Japanese slice of life translated books. I thought I’d pick this up because it has such good reviews, and of course the ladies in my book group have been RAVING about this for months. So it’s only natural I join the hype train!
  • Kitchen (currently reading) – I picked this up because of Kelsey (who I linked above) and the cover alone had me sold, then I read the blurb on the back and it confirmed that I NEEDED to read this book.  The blurb is “Kitchen juxtaposes two tales about mothers, transsexuality, bereavement, kitchens, love and tragedy in contemporary Japan. It is a startlingly original first work by Japan’s brightest young literary star and is now a cult film”.
  • The Chalk Man & Snap – I’ve grouped these together because the only reason I picked them up is because they have been advertised on the tubes in London for months, yes, I am one of those people where advertising really does work!

If you’re wondering what I rate my books you can check out my Goodreads here.

So that is the end of my book haul, if you liked this please let me know and I’ll consider doing more in the future!

What have I been up too?

Sorry for the radio silence, but life got in the way again!

Unfortunately my family dog passed away, we knew she was very ill and that it was coming (she was around 17/18 – we adopted her so we aren’t 100% sure how old she was), but it still hit the family really hard and I lost my mojo for basically everything, I spent a week in solidarity and thinking about everything.

It’s been almost 2 months since it happened and I’m back! I have been slowly working away on various projects because who needs just one eh?

I taught myself the crochet stitch corner to corner work and have made good use of some sunset rainbow yarn I’ve been hoarding. I joined an amazing crochet facebook group which have absolutely inspired me – you can search for it ‘Hooked on Crochet UK’.

I’m not sure how big I’m going to make the blanket yet, but I’m having a lot of fun with it and c2c is SO easy, I think it’s my new favourite stitch. I think the next project will be to incorporate my love of cross stitch and crochet together to make a pixel pattern blanket for someone.

I’ve also been putting together a granny square blanket I started making for my sister in February…however we both did predict I wouldn’t be finished until Christmas so everything is fine…

The blanket is pastel colour themed (the yarn has glitter running through it, so it’s extra sparkly), and I’ve used a white glittery yarn to do the border. In total it has 8 colours and 15 squares of each colour so far so it’s looking to be a big one – it has to fit her and her cat 🙂

I also want to do a nice border so if you have any stitch recommendations let me know.

And finally I’m heading back to Disneyland Paris this year for both Halloween AND Christmas – I purchased a vlogging camera so I’ll be vlogging my trips. I’ll debut my first vlog when I take a trip to Harry Potter Studio Tours in a couple of weeks! I’m extremely nervous.

Finally I’m also working hard on my Ghibli cross stitch project which I started forever ago but it’s the project I come back to every now and again so it’s not a big deal if I don’t finish it soon.

Are you wanting to see more free patterns? Projects? Vlogs? Let me know!

I also caught over 200 Eevee’s in the Pokemon Go event which only 8 were shiny, boo!

Sorry, life got in the way!

As you can see I haven’t been blogging much recently, although I have been stitching…I have just been so busy outside of work!

I moved house at the end of May but there was quite a long build up process , I had to move all my belongings from Essex to Hertfordshire so it was mad and I obviously tried to get it all done in one trip without a moving company. My first piece of advice when moving far is don’t do it solo – it killed me.

We still have around 3 boxes left to unpack and 8 bags/boxes of things to donate to charity but we are almost there! Now, what are my plans next for the blog? Well as you know I do love to stitch, but I have also recently become a Disneyland Paris annual pass holder, so you know what that means right? DISNEY CONTENT!

I’ll share my Disney trip diaries with you and I may in throw in a vlog or two 🙂 If there is anything you’d like to see then do let me know! And I’ll be back with my next project very soon.

First finished project of 2018!

Hello there! As most of you are aware I was working on a Disney Castle stitch (pattern from Etsy here) and I thought I would update my blog with the finished product and the pictures I took after each session.

I wanted to cross stitch myself something as I’ve been stitching for years and have yet to finish a project for me. As a Disney addict I thought this pattern was the only acceptable option to choose, it was very affordable and luckily I had a lot of the colours.

As you can see I finished this piece in 9 sessions and in total it took me around 23 hours – this was because there were quite a lot of sections with tiny segments of colour and it required quite a lot of changes. On a difficulty rating I would say this project is around a 6/10, but again this is only because of the amount of changes it required in colour, apart from that I absolutely had a blast stitching it (I get fed up of projects very quickly usually so this was a breath of fresh air).

Screen Shot 2018-01-22 at 18.10.09And here is the finished piece a bit bigger for you all to enjoy, eventually I am going to iron it and frame it with a hoop and maybe add Mickey ears to it!

I’d love to know what projects you’re currently working on, comment below and let me know 🙂

Pattern – Girl Look How F**king Orange You Look

We all loved season 5 of Rupaul’s Drag Race didn’t we? It brought to light some of the best one liners, and this one in particular is in my top 10 quotes of all time.

As I have quite a backlog of patterns I thought I’d share another free downloadable one for you today, and you might have guessed that it came from season 5 pageant bae Alyssa Edwards.

You know that moment between her and Coco? One of the best moments in RuPaul Herstory. Well I thought I’d make a quote pattern from it and add a cute little flower to the bottom of the screen, do you have a friend who loves bronzer or wears a little bit too much fake tan, well this is the pattern for you!

I’d love to see people’s take on this pattern – feel free to tag me on Instagram/Twitter or use the hashtag #ObvItsAmyStitches!
